Great Product So Far |

| This dehumidifier shipped fine...worked well right out of the box. The packaging is kind of flimsy, but I lucked out...it arrived with no problems. It is working fine, pulling water out of the basement air. We have it set to 45 and it ran continually for about 30 hours, then it started to shut off occassionally for short periods. Now I noticed that it is shutting off more frequently and for a little longer each time. I can only assume that as the basement gets drier, the off cycles will happen more and more and for longer periods of time. All in all, I am very happy with this product...time will tell if I remain satisfied with it, but so far I see no reason to think otherwise. |
Thus far, 5 stars, DRAINAGE WORKS |

| Yes, the packaging was mediocre. The bottom is foam, and a sheet of cardboard that is not attached to the rest of the box (exterior plastic straps hold it on), and ideally it should be in its own brown shipping box, but it arrived fine. If it looks beatup, I wouldn't accept delivery.
I was very concerned with other reviews stating the continuous drainage port doesn't work. It does. There is a small flap on the side, flip it open and plug in a 1" clear vinyl hose. Ran this down to my sump pump drainage and everything works fine. It removes a lot of water, in my basement, it becomes a dribble. Only complaint is that the wheels on the bottom are not easily removable. Other than that, it is A ok. Will update for durability if it breaks. |

| Very quiet compared to our old dehumidifier. Easy to move from room to room and up and down stairs. Extremely happy with this product. |
Works Like a Charm |

| I have had this dehumidifier for a few weeks and it seems to work very well. On the one it replaced the unit would shut off and restart completely where on this one the fan runs continuously circulating and filtering the air. The water container is east to dump and though the fan is a bit loud we don't find it annoying. Overall, I am very satisfied with this unit and would highly recommend it. |

| We bought two units when we had an emergency. Both units arrived fine and for last 30 days we've been running units almost non stop. It collects water a lot and unit is very quiet. When a bucket is full, machine shuts off. We are very happy with this product. |
It works |

| I have had a smaller soleus for over 5 years that has been great and a big improvement over the loud Whirlpools that broke after a couple of years.
This is a bigger more industrial version that I use in the basement. It is much louder than the other soleus, but it is a white noise sound that is not obnoxious if you're not right next to it. The ability to set humidity level digitally is nice. |
Works great but noisy |

| Pros: Pulls moisture out great; you can set the % humidity you want and it only runs when needed; automatic restart after power outage; common sense user controls and readouts; current humidity level readout.
Cons: Loud when in the same room with it I bought this to replace a Kenmore that was not pulling moisture out of the air any more. After a very rainy summer, my 1800 sq ft finished basement had developed a bad case of mildew. The humidity level was at 90% when I first started the unit. After 2 days it had dropped to only 75%. By the end of 5 days it dropped to 55% running non stop. I had to leave for 2 weeks. When I got back the unit was off because the filter needed cleaning. It was simple to remove, clean and replace - only a 10 minute job (most of that was getting it dry). After reinserting the filter the unit automatically restarted at the levels I had set. Now that the humidity level has hit 50% (where I set it) the unit has shut off and rarely runs. I cleaned the basement thouroughly when I first got the unit. The mildew has not come back, and the musty smell is gone. The only thing left to see is if this unit will continue to work for a number of years. Bottom line: Even though this unit is not quiet, I am very pleased with it's performance. I just hope it continues to work well for years. |
Works now, but didn't ship well. |

| I'm on my third one of these. The first two didn't survive shipping with FedEx. Big hole in the side, etc. The third one Amazon had sent by UPS. It arrived fine. Part of the problem I think comes from how it is packaged. They place the dehumidifier on a piece of styrofoam and then put a box to cover the top and side. So one side is styrofoam only, and the other 5 sides are box only, no protective packaging materials. I've had it for about a month now. It is working great as a product. The first few days it filled the 50 pint bucket in a day. Now it takes about 2 days to fill. I imagine when the spring rain ends, it will go several days. The auto-shut off seems to work great, and the bucket is really easy to empty. No more "basement smell" to our basement. |
Darn near perfect... |

| This dehumidifier is amazing. I did a lot of searching and decided to take a chance on it, and I am certainly glad that I did. I live in a townhouse with a finished English basement. With a sump pump well and laundry room attached to it, the room can get very damp and musty fast. However, this has eliminated both issues. I would certainly recommend this to anyone looking for a quality dehumidifier.
The only thing that kept this from being a 5 stars is the tank. When the tank is full, it's very tough to pull out and carry without spilling water. I will eventually hook up a hose for continuous drainage to alleviate this issue though. |
FYI - Product Info |

| Here are some things that the product info did not make clear.
1. The sound is from the fan. Even at the lowest of the 3 speed setting, its louder than a table fan, IMHO. So you know the type of sound to expect. My 10 yr. old Kenmore dehumidifier doesn't seem to have a fan - just a condenser. It is loud - like an old very noisy frig. That's where the Soleus is better. 2. I was hoping to be able to use the Soleus unattended by using a drain hose. 'No-can-do-sir'. Even if you attach a garden hose (with washer), it really keeps dripping into the bucket which ultimately fills up and stops the machine. I have used the same hose with an outside faucet and there is no drip. But the dehumidifier outlet is plastic and one only do a finger tight hose connection. It is also possible that it isn't a leak but condensation. Either way it is NOT an unattended solution. The bucket is irregular shaped. So Can't put an auto draining small pump in there either. 3. The float is filled with styrofoam that looks identical to the packing in the box. Intuitively, I started to pick it out. I caught myself in time as I realized that its purpose was to make the float assembly light and thereby float when the bucket filled. 4. Documentation is just about adequate to get started. Old dehumidifiers simply had high/low settings as opposed to actual % humidity. It would have been nice to get some user guidelines in the documentation. For example, I see that a 40% setting is really a continuous setting. Factory setting it came with was 45%. So I'm keeping it there but wondering if its overkill for a basement. I'd also like to know how the 3 fan settings changes (or not) the 50 pint/day de-humidification rate. |
Works great, but a little noisy |

| We purchased this for our basement, which is divided into five rooms. It handles the entire area well and we're happy with the performance. It's definitely quieter than our ancient, less efficient dehumidifier, but a little louder than we anticipated. Since it's in the basement, it's not a big deal for us.
I'm trying to find a way to clean the bucket/water receptacle. The bottom is dirty after using this all summer, but I can't figure out a way to get the top off to clean easily. Overall, it's a great dehumidifier and I'd buy it again. |

| Received this unit about a month ago and it is working fine. Drains well and shuts off automatically. Noise level is not above what I would expect a dehumidifier to have. Hopefully it will last a long time. |
automatic drainage port does not work |

| The automatic drainage port doesn't work on the unit I received. I hooked a hose up to the connector, but the water still goes into the bucket and I have to go to the basement at least once a day to empty it. Annoying. There was a loose part in the bucket. Since I couldn't tell know what it was for, I threw it away. On the plus side, the unit is quiet and takes a lot of water out of the air. Most other units I have bought (not soleus) have lasted about a year. I am hoping this unit lasts longer. |
Quality is a crap shoot, and Customer Service is the Pits |

| My purchasing experience with this unit and the company that makes it is all over the map. I'll try to be concise:
1. My unit did not draw moisure out of the air when it arrived. 2. It took ONE MONTH to receive a replacement from SoleusAir 3. Hysterically, the unit comes with a bright orange sheet in the box that says something like, "Don't return to the store if you have a problem, but contact the helpful staff at SoleusAir for assistance." 4. Calling SoleusAir is an exercise in futility. No one answers... ever! After you've waited on hold for 1/2 hour and finally hung up, someone will call you back (!) and then tell you to leave a message in someone's voicemail. Even though they called you, they don't want to actually talk to you! 5. The second unit that arrived - again, one month after I ordered - did work, and has been doing so since I plugged it in. It draws a lot of water out of the air, and is relatively quiet, depending on your fan setting. In general, it sounds like a fan, and the compressor noise is basically non-existent in comparison to the fan sound. 6. If it worked right away and/or the customer service was great, I would recommend this item, but we really owe it to the good companies to not buy from the companies that are bad. If I knew now what I knew then, I would not be giving a company like this my money. 7. If you don't believe in my philosophy and just have to have this item, then buy it directly from Amazon (and not a third party vendor) because at least with them, if the unit is defective when it arrives, they'll happily cross ship from their own stock and your hassle will be minimized. |
Broken Unit, Horrible Customer Service |
| Review Date: September 15, 2009 |

| Do yourself a favor and skip this product. Mine worked great for the first two months and then the humidity sensor failed, rendering the dehumidifier useless.
When I contacted customer support (e-mails and phone calls over a month long period) the end result was that I would have to send the entire unit back at my expense. When I asked about replacing just the control board, the service rep said that was impossible. The entire time she was rude and extremely unknowledgeable of the product. I also inquired about purchasing the control board at my own expense. This too is impossible. Apparently what makes these dehumidifiers so special is that they are produced as a single unit with absolutely no replaceable parts! I'm guessing that there is some sort of mother and father dehumidifier that produce these units as their offspring. She also offered up the tidbit that the summer is the busy time of the year for them because they have so many broken units. Great! |
Worked fine until it passed one year mark! Lousy customer serivice |

| We had it for 13 months and it quit, just when the warranty ran out. We tried calling their customer service but they would not pick up the phone. We called several times a day, emailed, but we did not get any help. I did not expect paying over $200+ just for it to work within a year. In fact, it was working less than a year as I didn't turn it on in the summer, only during the rain season which is rare in non-coastal Northern California. |
