About four years ago, we bought a Kenmore Dehumidifier from our local Sears store. To be completely honest, it was not this model. The cost was almost the same as this model and, perhaps, this was the model which replaced the model we bought.
In any case, we bought the dehumidifier to control the humidity in a room where my wife stores a collection of antique dolls, Well, initially this thing would drain buckets of water out of the air on the lowest setting. It was amazing. However, it seemed to run about the same amount of time and drain the same amount of water from the air no matter what the setting. Then it stopped working altogether, no matter what the setting. Then it started working again. When it was working, off and on, it would significantly raise the temperature in the room. All in all, our attempt to control the humidity of the room would have to be considered an almost complete failure. But, in discovering this, we found the Kenmore Dehumidifier to be a marginal, poorly working appliance.
I repeat, our model is not the same as the one offered here. But, if you're thinking of buying an updated Kenmore Dehumidifier, look over the reviews of this new model and pay careful attention to the negative and troublesome comments. Quite frankly, we would not buy another Kenmore Dehumidifier, no matter what the model.

I have a four-year-old version of this product. It needed service on the refrigeration unit after two years, and needs it again. Why? The evaporator tubes are aluminum, the tube supports are steel. This creates a galvanic cell which corrodes both metals, eventually eating holes in the tubes and letting the freon escape. If they claim the problem no longer exists, make them take the unit apart and show you a magnet won't stick to the tube supports.
Poor design, wasted money.

Mine died after four years, the previous one, another make, lasted 20 years. A sad product for Kenmore, perhaps it should be known as a Knomore.

We bought an "ionic" air purifier first and took it back when the allergy doctor said we should have one with a hepa filter. We bought this thinking it was a little high priced. But now we love it. You can move this unit around the house -- I burned something in the kitchen, put the air purifier in the room and turned it to HIGH and it really did get rid of the cooking odors. Move it anywhere you need fresh air... into a bedroom, pet area, bathroom, or keep it in the living room and it can run for 24/7. It removes dust, pollen, pet dander, odors, etc. just like the box says it does! Imagine that. It works. We want another one. Blueair 200 Series Particle Replacement Filter
I bought a Haier Dehumidifier last year. The unit has stopped working just after the 1 year mark. Although they state in their literature that they will repair these units--the repair service used by them leave a lot to be desired. Basically it will cost me as much as I paid for the unit new, to repair.
They have a really great website touting their products--but if you look closely there is no easy way to get any help regarding warranty/service issues. These products are made in China--that should say it ALL.
Same thing happened to me

My Haier dehumidifier also stopped working after a bit over a year and out of warranty. Couldn't even find anyone to fix it and suspected it would cost too much anyway. I WILL NEVER BUY ANOTHER HAIER PRODUCT AGAIN.

Purchased the unit in May 2009. Works very well and isn't too loud. Love the automatic pump feature. The pump hookup comes with a very long tube to run to a floor drain (or sink) so you never have to empty the unit. Still has an onboard tank if you can't use the pump. Digital display tells you the current humidity and you can either select the humidity level or you can set it to run all the time.
Hidden costs - can become a nightmare

If you have a problem with the unit, your life will become a nightmare. I have tried on and off for over a year to obtain a part for my Delonghi Dehumidifier. They do not sell parts to consumers, instead trying to get you to mail the heavy device to one of their repair centers usually very far away. Third-party parts people I have spoken with were specifically banned from selling the part to consumers, though Delonghi officially claims this isn't so. All in all, I think I have wasted over a day of my life trying to get a small, simple replacement part for my unit. I will never purchase a Delonghi product again. Do yourself a favor and buy a different brand.

continuous fan noise & power

This seems like a reasonable unit, but I bought it primarily for the low-noise and power saving claims, but I find that the fan runs continuously, meaning continuous noise and power usage.
Several other Units I have had in this usage run 1-2 hours/day, so are significantly better.
I liked its adjustable hygrometer (30-90%), but am returning it for a unit with auto-shut-off.

We bought model DDR3008EE in 6/08. It worked well at first, but in Fall 2008 ate a lot of power, and its anti-icing function appeared to stop working. We didn't use it over the winter. We turned it on in 7/09 and found its coils would not cool. Other than the fan blowing air, it was totally non-functional. A local shop confirmed that the coolant had leaked out. It took many calls to Danby just to finally get a human being instead of a machine. The man told me Danby couldn't help us as the 1 year warranty had run out. We paid $242 for this piece of junk. We won't ever buy a Danby product again.
